The use of E-numbers explained!

E‑Additives:

Why Decola sometimes uses them — and how we keep them to a minimum

In brief: A food additive is an authorized substance, added in very small amounts to provide a technological function (e.g., stability, texture, color, preservation). Not all additives are the same and many are of natural origin. At Decola, we use them only when they benefit quality, and we commit to minimizing them through our Addi‑Pure approach.

Why do you see “E” on some labels?

The letter E indicates an additive authorized in the EU. On the ingredient list, the rule is to state the functional category (e.g., anti‑caking agent, thickener, emulsifier) followed by the additive’s name or its E number, for example: anti‑caking agent: silicon dioxide (E551).

An “E” code does not mean “chemical” or “harmful”

An E number is a regulatory ID, not a danger signal. Many additives are natural:

E100 (curcumin from turmeric), E160c (paprika extract), E162 (beetroot red), E160a (carotenes), E306 (tocopherols from vegetable oils), E392 (rosemary extracts), E414 (acacia gum), E440 (fruit pectins)… What matters are their role and their dose.

Why are they found in capsules?

Because that’s what guarantees product consistency and reliability: our precious Decola ingredients differ in particle size, moisture, and flow properties. Without certain anti‑caking agents or lubricants, you risk:

• less homogeneous blends,

• capsules that are poorly filled or irregular in weight,

• ultimately, less precise dosing of each ingredient.

Our high‑tech products demand formulation precision that is incompatible with such variability. The additives in question therefore serve reliable manufacturing, not “padding” for its own sake.

DECOLA guarantees

Transparency: the function is stated clearly and, whenever possible, the additive’s name rather than just its number.

Necessary only: additives strictly useful for quality (flowability, homogeneity, stability) and authorized for our uses.

Formulation minimalism: no “comfort” additives intended to inflate a declared weight on the label.

Addi‑Pure (our clean label): reduce additives to the strict minimum, favor robust processes and, when relevant, natural non‑E alternatives (hydrolyzed rice flour, potato maltodextrin) — with no compromise on safety or stability.

How we reduce “E” in practice

  1. Ingredient selection
    • Careful study of the quality of our extracts and nutrients improves their processing while minimizing recourse to corrective additives.
  2. Process control
    • Continuous improvement of production processes also limits their use: sieving/conditioning, fine filling adjustments for a good fit ingredient ↔ capsule ↔ production tooling.
  3. Alternatives
    • When technically possible, Decola favors non‑E ingredients that play an equivalent role, e.g., rice flour, potato maltodextrin. Not regulated by the EU as additives, they appear on the label as ingredients rather than additives.
  4. Continuous improvement
    • Every new product goes through an “Addi‑Pure” challenge: can we achieve the same with less?

Thank you for your trust. We reaffirm our commitment: rigorous R&D in the service of natural health — fewer additives, more clarity, always prevention and respect for the body’s terrain.
